Queen Maxima Shows Off Her Unique Fashion While in Italy for Milan Design Week
The Dutch Queen is the second royal to represent her country in a statement trench coat from Claes Iversen
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands showed off her unique and rather bold sense of style during an appearance promoting Dutch designers as part of Milan Design Week 2023. She was there as part of an effort to support the designers and highlight the social impact of their work.
The Queen began her tour at the city’s hipster Isola neighborhood, where she observed the display of "Dutch landscape artist Petra Blaisse with the architect.” She also had the opportunity to speak with Italian architect Stefano Boeri, who created a rather impressive high-rise in the area called the Bosco Verticale or vertical forest.
After that morning tour, she then moved onto the Circular Village and met with a group of Dutch designers and brand teams at the event. They are part of the Isola are part of an international community founded by Gabriele Cavallaro.
Maxima then joined Salon Satellite’s president Maria Porto to tour a section of the Salone del Mobile that “aims to enhance links between research, design and industry, focusing on designers under the age of 35.” She met five of those designers, and also spoke with students from Design Academy Eindhoven.
Finally, Maxima will end the visit by attending ‘Masterly, the Dutch in Milano’ at the Palazzo deli Giureconsulti. Curator Nicole Uniquole has gathered together 70 different Dutch interior designers and design companies for the exhibition. To wrap up the short trip, she will visit with students from the HMC, a school for woodworking and furniture making in the Netherlands and a networking event related to Masterly attended by designers, businesspeople, dignitaries and people from the cultural sector.
Ever the fashion risk taker, Maxima began her day in a statement trench coat from Dutch designer Claes Iversen with gold ring cutouts. It is reminiscent of a dress that she wore during the state visit to Norway in 2021, and one of the key features of the designer. In royal circles, Maxima is well-known for making some unique and interesting fashion choices and this one definitely stands out, but given the event her bold choices were likely welcomed.
This is apparently a popular royal event, as Crown Princess Mary of Denmark was in Milan the day before to support Danish interests.
