Top 8 Royal Events of 2023
For the first introductory email of the year, it makes sense to start off with an overview of what we can expect in 2023.
There’s a lot happening in royal circles this year, with a truly historic coronation, a golden jubilee, 50th birthdays, weddings and more! So here are the Top 10 2023 royal events.
Coronation of King Charles III - On May 6, 2023, the world will watch as the longest serving Prince of Wales in British royal history is finally crowned King Charles III. This will be a truly historic event, and RNN will be there covering it all!
Golden Jubilee for King Carl Gustaf - Having come to the throne at the tender age of 27, King Carl Gustaf of Sweden will celebrate his Golden Jubilee Sept. 15-16. In addition, due to the 500th anniversary of the election of Gustav Vasa as King of Sweden, the Swedish National Day Celebrations on June 6 will be more extensive. (There will be tiara appearances as well.)
Royal Weddings In Luxembourg and Jordan - There will be two royal weddings this year. The first will be Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg, who will marry her fiancé, Nicolas Bagory, in a civil service on April 22 in Luxembourg and a religious service on April 29 in the South of France. In Jordan, Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II will marry Rajwa Khalid Alseif on June 1.
50th Birthday Bonanza - Queen Mathilde of the Belgians will turn 50 on January 20. Crown Prince Haakon (July 20) and his wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit (August 19) will celebrate their 50th birthdays. It is expected that there will be gala events for both the Queen and the Crown Prince couple. Prince Daniel, husband of Crown Princess Victoria, will also turn the big five-oh.
More Young Royals Coming of Age - On October 15, Prince Christian of Denmark will celebrate his 18th birthday. The future king will come to the throne after his father, Crown Prince Frederik. A couple of weeks later, Halloween baby Leonor, The Princess of Asturias and the future Queen of Spain, will also turn 18. Earlier in the year, Dutch King Willem-Alexander’s middle child Princess Alexia will join her older sister and come of age.
10 Years Since the Inauguration of King Willem Alexander & Coronation of King Philippe of the Belgians - April 30 will commemorate 10 years since the Dutch King ascended the throne. He was the first king for the small nation since 1890. The Netherlands has a history of voluntary abdications, with the three previous queens giving up the throne to their successors so they can essentially retire from the most pressing royal duties. King Philippe of the Belgians came to the throne the same year amidst scandal, as former King Albert II abdicated after it was discovered he fathered a child out of wedlock. Both countries will likely commemorate these events in some sort of way.
A Tour Down Under for the Wales? - With the Sydney Opera House about to celebrate its 50th anniversary and republican sentiment growing, it’s possible that the entire Wales’ clan will venture to Australia and New Zealand in 2023. It would be the couple’s first trip to the region since 2014, when they brought baby George. Hopefully, this time they can visit with all three of their children, perhaps around the Easter holiday in April.
More Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Toxicity and Chaos - Unfortunately, the Harry and Meghan royal side show will continue with the couple in 2023, as the couple continue to attack the monarchy. However, this year could also result in their ultimate downfall, as public sentiment continues to turn against the couple.
Upcoming:
Prince Harry memoir “Spare” launches on Jan. 10. To help promote the book, Harry is appearing on ITV on Jan. 8 at 9PM GMT in the U.K., and on 60 Minutes and Paramount+ in the U.S. also on Jan. 8 at 7PM EST. The ITV interview may be accessible to American’s via a BritBox subscription.
