It’s been four years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told the world that they would be spending Christmas away from the royal family in Canada. At the time, this was positioned as a temporary reprieve from the scrutiny of royal life, with their spokesperson saying that the couple’s decision “is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
No one could have anticipated that their absence would become permanent not just from the Christmas at Sandringham, but from the royals in general.
At the time, the couple appeared to relish their supposedly “quiet” Christmas abroad, and returned to the U.K. in January with a flashy appearance at the Canadian Embassy and a bombshell.
The couple didn’t just enjoying the festive holiday, but were actually scheming to leave the royal family.
Megxit was their plan to take all the perks of royalty and monetize it for their own gain. Needless to say, the world was blindsided by the move, as were the royals. Though discussions had started behind-the-scenes, no one considered the couple brazen enough to pull the trigger without a good plan in place with the crown.
But as it turns out, Harry and Meghan aren’t too bright.
Sure, Megxit resulted in the couple getting some mega Hollywood deals, but four years on the couple appear to be on course for a catastrophic crash. Like any over confident gambler, they’ve overplayed their hand and are paying the price.
So is a seemingly desperate invitation to Christmas at Sandringham a sign that the couple are admitting defeat? Yes and no.
When Meghan initially convinced Harry that torpedoing his relationships with his family and the Crown would be beneficial to him, he agreed. She was the victim of all the ‘isims’ one couple possibly imagine, and she was previously a wildly successful Hollywood actress. Why couldn’t they make a go of it in Tinsel Town?
But four years on, their star is quickly turning into a black hole.
The couple made the mistake of thinking that all they needed was a royal title. Hard work, competency and consistency were secondary concerns to reminding everyone that they were royals. All they needed to do was show up and the money would flow, they thought.
That’s not how Hollywood works though.
They signed up for their mega deals as producers, executives and creatives, and they’ve failed to deliver on nearly all of those fronts. Their content is uninspiring, lazy and overly contrived, and the real stars are no longer interested in indulging their whims. For Harry and Meghan to succeed now, they need to prove they’re worthy of the tens of millions they were initially promised.
However, instead of taking on their challenge head on and changing their abysmal business practices, the couple are instead trying to double down on one thing: royalty.
If they can get that coveted invitation to Sandringham, maybe the industry will take a look at them again and they can try again. But unlike the Sussexes, Hollywood isn’t stupid so Harry and Meghan will have to do the one thing they’ve hated doing since the very beginning.
Work.
A Tiara Makes an Appearance After 90 Years!
At the recent State Visit, the Princess of Wales debuted a tiara that has not been seen in 90 years: The Strathmore Rose Tiara! This delicate piece was given to the Queen Mother for the occasion of her wedding in 1923, though it was likely made in the nineteenth century. The tiara was versatile, as the roses could be removed and used as brooches and the diamonds could be replaced with collet-set sapphires. Though she received the tiara for her wedding, the Queen Mother only wore the tiara in a series of official photographs and to at least one event. It has not been seen since at least the 1930s.

The thing that makes me sad about the birthday call, if it happened, is the video of the kids and not allowing them to interact with their grandpa at all. More control freak and manipulation by those two.
Can a small family enjoy major holidays without extended family? I can’t imagine it, because I was fortunate to have grandparents, etc when I was growing up. And my in laws invited us to Thanksgiving, etc. when we married. Now that we have married children and double digit grandchildren who mainly live in the NYC area, we rack up the airline miles. And we also spend time with the parents of our sons in law when we can. Otherwise, it makes for a very lonely holiday season. I don’t think Harry and Meghan considered that when they broke away in such a horrific manner.
